The Friends group works separately but in partnership with Willamalane. It is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Friends of Willamalane improved the quality of family life in Springfield by supporting district facilities and programs that:
- Provide youth with learning and recreational activities.
- Help reduce crime.
- Help beautify our neighborhoods and improve property values.
Friends has provided funding to develop the Springfield skate park, to purchase the Briggs property adjacent to Dorris Ranch, to improve and beautify Meadow Park and to provide scholarships for recreation programs. Without the membership and donations of concerned citizens, Friends could not be there for Springfield.
